(Information found in findagrave.com and Pauline Finnefrock’s Scrapbook)

Sidney was born on April 23, 1913, and died on November 19, 1944, at the age of 31. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swift of Buffalo, NY. He was born and raised in Farwell where his parents came to live from England after they were married. The family left Renovo but visited quite often. Findagrave.com claims Sidney was a 1st Lt in the Corps of Engineers and the newspaper clipping claims he was a gunner in a bomber during World War II. Not sure which version is correct. He was killed when his unit, the 1392nd engineer forestry company was shelled outside of Monschau during the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest. Hurtgen Forest is ranked among the most horrific battles in the European Theater. He was the only casualty. He was greatly admired by the men he led.
