Dean Chester Lunger (Killed in Action)

Lt. Dean C Lunger was a Flyboy. He was the son of Chester and Mabel Moyer Lunger, born on January 15, 1922. He graduated from Renovo High School in 1940. Dean registered for the draft on June 30, 1942, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 19, 1943. After training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the 415 Night Fighter Squadron. He was deployed to Europe on January 23, 1945. Before leaving for duty, Dean married Anna Louise Gregory in Alameda, GA on May 7, 1944.

When deployed to Europe, Dean was flying the British-made Bristol Beaufighter. Through April 1945, the Squadron flew patrols and intruder missions, concentrating on enemy installations, supplies, and communications. On April 10, 1945, the 415 Night Fighter Squadron was stationed near Saint-Dizier, France. On that day, Dean was taking off to test pilot some planes just brought in from Britain. Dean was killed after take-off in a crash that was non-combat related.

He is buried at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Montgomery, Lycoming County.
