Bertha M Herritt - Fly Boys of World War II_The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park

Bertha was born on January 24, 1924 in Renovo, PA and died July 14, 1977, in Hoboken, Hudson, NJ. She resided at 1126 Erie Avenue Renovo, PA at the time of her enlistment. She was the daughter of Harry F and Mary C Burney Herritt. The burial permit states name as Bertha Carmody. She was the wife of William Rettig. Confusing since Carmody is a suburb of Hoboken, NJ. Her husband passed away in 1975 at the age of 52.

Private Bertha Herritt was a member of the Women’s Army Air Corps and enlisted on September 22, 1944, in Harrisburg, PA ended at Fort Dix, NJ with her discharge on January 21, 1946. She is buried at the Red Hill Cemetery in Leidy Township, Clinton County, PA.
