He was born on April 14, 1918, and died June 1, 1982, at the age of 64. He was the son of Dennis and Minnie Treon. He resided at 315 Huron Avenue Renovo, PA, On September 10, 1942, Master Sergeant John E Treon, a tail gunner on a B17E bomber, shot down a German airplane as it attempted to ram the tail of the bomber at Lillie, France.
He was awarded an Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster for his actions. He was part of the 326 Bomb Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group 8th AF WWII. On August 12, 1943, he was wounded in both arms when his plane was shot down in Germany. Although he was captured, he had achieved the extraordinary feat of flying fifteen bombing missions over Europe. On December 2, 1943, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis D Treon were presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross at an assembly at Renovo High School. Sergeant Treon was not freed until May 1945. As a prisoner of war,he was housed in Stalag Luft Sagan and Belaria.
