John M Paul was born on January 24, 1924, in Farwell, PA. He was a son of the late Preston and Catherine Wolfe. John grew up in Farwell and his family farmed the land where Bucktail High School is located. Members of the Paul family still live in the family home in Farwell. He passed away at the age of 84 on July 17, 2008, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He served as a Pfc. in the 765th Bombardment Squadron 461st Bombardment Group. John received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with eight Bronze Stars. He was a top turret gunner in a B-24. John was involved in three crash landings on the B24. Some of his flights included Southern France, and Ploesti, Romania to name a few.
Mr. Paul worked at Piper Aircraft, Berwick Forge and the P.R.R. He was a member of American Legion Post #442, Renovo.
According to his son, John, he suffered horrific nightmares.
